Primarily a landscape painter Cynthia Gordon also brings a uniquely contemporary sense to her works. Influenced by the great Hudson River School of American painting, she imbues her otherwise down-to-earth landscapes with a sense of openness and spirituality. Her work is inspired by the beauty of the land surrounding the Gordon's studio, nestled on a gentle slope of the northern Hudson Valley and overlooking the Green Mountains of Vermont to the east. Farmland, fields and forests offer an endless bounty of subject matters for Cynthia's paintings as the seasons cycle over the mountains and valleys.Barns and farms are featured as the main subjects in Cynthia's beautifully composed landscape paintings.

Her works hang in many prominent private collections across America. As a graduate of both the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Schuler School in Baltimore MD, Cynthia has genuinely perfected a balance of sharp technical facility and soft, gentle atmosphere on her canvases. Hand grinding her own pigments for each days sitting and using traditional materials and techniques, she creates works that invite the viewer into the picture by reminding us of the simple and timeless beauty of nature
